Centre4 is an established vibrant Community Hub that provides office rental, room hire and various services/facilities to the community of NEL.We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Caretaker to join our team. This role is an integral part of the core team of staff at Centre4 and it is essential that you have excellent customer service and can work in a very demanding environment. You will need to undertake all aspects of maintenance, security and cleaning of Centre4 and ensure associated grounds are kept in good order in accordance with Health and Safety Legislation.You must be flexible and prepared to work weekends and evenings, have good organisational and communication skills and the ability to undertake small DIY requests
Purpose of job: to undertake all aspects of maintenance and security of Centre4 and grounds are kept in good order in accordance with Health and Safety Legislation.
Job Responsibilities
Main responsibilities:1. Key holding and Security Carries out security procedures for grounds, premises and their contents The routine and non-routine opening and closing of premises The testing and operation of residual current devices, fire and burglar alarms and the visual checks of light switches, plug sockets etc and reports faults Reports in accordance with agreed procedures any trespass on the premises, damage from intruders and unauthorised parking of vehicles2. Janitorial Duties Ensures that the grounds are free from litter and clean of debris. Carries out the following specified handyperson duties:(a) Plumbing – Elementary Tasks like:- unblocking sinks/toilets- replacing worn tap washers- adjusting ball valves in cisterns and washer valves- replacing or repair cistern ‘chain pulls’ or ‘levers’- unblocking rain water drains and outlets(b) Toilet Furniture – tighten or fix wc seats, paper and soap containers, mirrors(c) Furniture – repair chairs, desks, cupboards, shelves etc e.g. replacing plastic backs and seats, tightening or replacing screws, pop riveting (i.e. simple repairs – NOT joinery)(d) Door Furniture – secure, repair or replace(e) Coat Hooks – secure, repair or replace(f) Broken Windows – remove dangerous glass(g) Carpets – secure and/or remove to make safe ‘threshold strips’(h) Extractor Fans – clean filters twice a year, September and January, vacuum, clean cabinet once, in September only(i) Lamps and Tubes – replace lamps and fluorescent tubes; clean specified diffusers and reflectors(j) Surfaces – remove graffiti(j) Other minor ‘make do and mend’ tasks to such things as floor coverings, work surfaces, fences, gates, furniture etc which may require nailing, screwing and/or gluing type of skills3. Report to the Centre Management any repairs and/or maintenance work required at the premises which cannot be undertaken as part of the above duties.4. Cleans any other areas identified in the Caretaker Diary that are not within the cleaners’ job remit5. Carries out regular inspection of grounds. This will require weekly/monthly inspection sheets to be completed.6. Performs other emergency cleaning required due to accidents, illness, building and equipment failure, vandalism etc.
