Centre4 was established in 1995 to support the ongoing regeneration of Grimsby and North East Lincolnshire.


Our modern, Wootton Road Community Hub puts an array of activities and services at your fingertips, whether you are looking to squeeze in a workout at our Community Gym, reduce your weekly shopping bills at the Community Shop or get access to practical help and support for a variety of issues, then our team is here to help.


The Centre4 team is on hand to provide free and friendly support about benefits, debt and money management, housing, employment and much more. Many of our services stretch beyond our Centre and we can deliver services throughout North East Lincolnshire and surrounding areas.

Job Description

Community Activity and Engagement Connector


The Role 


You will be responsible for collaborating with our community and partners to develop and deliver a programme of community activities. The programme will be shaped on what the community tell us about the kind of activities they’d like to take part in. Active participation of our community is a given.


This will involve the development of new partnerships whilst maintaining existing partnerships, planning and delivering all activities to a high standard ensuring maximum impact in the community.


You will need to be confident, quick thinking and comfortable in taking a leading role on delivery of community activity programmes, often having to take the lead on provision with large groups of participants. You will be responsible for recruiting, inducting and supervising volunteers involved in supporting community activities. The activity programme will involve days, evenings and weekends.


You will work closely with the Director of Community Engagement and team, ensuring all activities are planned meticulously; achieving all requirements set out by our partner organisations, funders and stakeholders, whilst continuing to build relationships with other organisations across North East Lincolnshire.


Accountable to: Director, Community Engagement, Education and Employability 

Accountable for: successful delivery of community project outcomes

Salary: £14,449 (12 month fixed term contract)

Hours: 22 hours per week

Place of work: Centre4, 17 Wootton Road, Grimsby, DN33 1HE (required to work out in community settings across North East Lincolnshire as needed)

Annual leave: 21 days/year plus bank holidays pro rata

Job Responsibilities

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:


  • Engage with our community to discover what community activities they’re interested in and would like to take part in. 
  • Plan and organise a programme of community activities, ensuring provision is successful and achieves targets.
  • Deliver a range of community activity sessions to groups. 
  • Support our community to shape and create their own community groups enabling them to deliver community activities. 
  • Ensure innovative monitoring and evaluating processes are undertaken for all community engagement and activities in line with Centre4 and the funders monitoring and evaluating processes, creating both qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Recruit, induct and supervise volunteers as required.
  • Create reports on all provision documenting progress against project outcomes with the Director of Community Engagement. 
  • Work alongside the Director of Community Engagement to ensure all programmes work within their financial budget, making certain spend is correctly planned in advance and on track throughout. 
  • Understand the importance of tracking expenditure throughout delivery of all community engagement and activities provision.
  • Act in accordance with Centre4’s strategic objectives and policies and seek to promote them.
  • Ensure the Designated Safeguarding Officer is informed immediately of any concerns relating to safeguarding in relation to any incidents taken place on programme. 
  • Be a passionate advocate for all Centre4 projects

Relevant and significant experience within a community engagement and delivery of community activities role A/I – E

Experience and commitment to GDPR and confidentiality procedures A/I – E

Broad knowledge of barriers that members of the community may face A/I – E

Skills and Abilities


Excellent ICT Skills – particularly Microsoft Office and a willingness to embed all practice in digital functions A – E
