In this Case Study we chat with Fiona Topham about her time with the ERA team and find out how this helped her progress into a permanent, full-time position with the NELC Wellbeing Team.
How did you first find out about ERA Employment Agency and why did you register with us?
I found out through a vacancy posted on Facebook. I had been made redundant due to the pandemic so found myself unemployed.
What have you done through ERA? E.g. training, work trials, employment, social action community jobs?
I was employed for 8 months as a Community Wellbeing Connector based at Centre4. This position enabled me to complete mandatory training such as GDPR, Safeguarding, Health and safety etc. I completed Mental Health First Aid course.
What has changed for you since then?
I have been successful in obtaining a permanent job as a Wellbeing Worker for NELC Wellbeing Service.
How has this and the staff at ERA, helped you develop?
(E.g. has your confidence increased, have you gained new skills, what new experiences have you had?)
After spending 7 months furloughed due to Covid 19 pandemic which resulted in redundancy and unemployment I came to ERA with very little confidence in my skills and abilities. Previous to this I had spent 6 years working in the private sector so felt out of touch with the voluntary and public sector.
From the welcome upon arrival for my interview to every step of induction and employment I have felt supported. Rachel and Tracey are friendly, supportive, approachable and professional. They genuinely care and are interested in you as an individual, supporting you to progress to the best outcome for you.
Working at Centre4 with such amazing people helped me to feel at home immediately, I soon regained the confidence I had lost and I felt part of a team very quickly.
The experience I gained whilst with ERA most definitely led me to securing a permanent position within the local authority. Now I am happy I was made redundant as it led to better things.
What would you say to a friend about how ERA can help them?
I would totally recommend ERA to friends and in fact have done so, it might just be the stepping stone you need. If you take the step you can be sure you will be fully supported by the loveliest of people who will help you on your journey.
